monheim has approximately 850 years of recorded history. first documented in 1150 fishermen s village in grafschaft (earldom) berg. became administrative centre surrounding villages (including many of villages form düsseldorf) in 1363, , stayed in position until napoleon formed rhine confederation in 1806. monheim, baumberg , hitdorf combined municipal corporation. monheim gained city status in 1960, ten years after incorporated neighbouring villages baumberg , hitdorf. @ end of 1974 monheim incorporated düsseldorf part of major municipal corporation reform. after successful complaint in federal state s constitutional court in münster, city became independent again on 1 july 1976, lost hitdorf leverkusen. since 1994 official city name has been monheim rhein.
