worker

chestnut-brown, shining; mandibles finely , closely, head , thorax more or less widely, longitudinally striate; nodes of pedicel smooth or rugulose; abdomen polished , smooth; pilosity long, abundant, reddish yellow, oblique on antennae , legs. rest characters of genus.


queen

resembles worker in colour; mandibles more coarsely striate, clypeus smooth, front between antennae , cheeks longitudinally striate, head posteriorly on vertex , lateral angles coarsely reticulate. thorax: pronotum vaguely , transversely , mesonotum posteriorly longitudinally striate; anteriorly latter smooth , polished, scutellum rugose, metanotum irregularly striate rugose, including basal portion of metanotal spines. pedicel :the nodes rugulose, opaque; abdomen smooth, polished , shining. wings hyaline; nervures brownish.


male

light chestnut-yellow, apical margins of abdominal segments more or less broadly brownish black; head , thorax densely pubescent, in places rugulose, giving them dull subopaque look; head on each side of ocelli longitudinally striate. few striae on mesonotum posteriorly , on basal portion of metanotum, traces of same on apical face of latter. pedicel obscurely rugulose, subopaque; abdomen smooth, shining, not highly polished. wings flavo-hyaline; nervures yellowish.


variation

var. subcarinata, smith, slighter, more slender , lighter in colour, smooth; occurs in bengal, burma, , tenasserim, , extends down borneo. colour , rugosity, pilosity, vary much; but, far long series has enabled me judge, 1 species many differing local races extends through india, ceylon, , burma.
