nevada refloated on 12 february 1942 , underwent temporary repairs @ pearl harbor puget sound navy yard major overhaul , modernization. completed in october 1942, , changed old battleship s appearance resembled south dakota distance. 5 /51s , 5 /25s replaced sixteen 5 /38 caliber guns in new twin mounts. nevada sailed alaska, provided fire support 11–18 may 1943 capture of attu.


nevada departed norfolk navy yard in june further modernization. after completed, nevada went on atlantic convoy duty. old battleships such nevada attached many convoys across atlantic guard against chance german capital ship might head out sea on raiding mission.
