as in many other countries, child labour in switzerland affected among so-called kaminfegerkinder ( chimney sweep children ) , children working p.e. in spinning mills, factories , in agriculture in 19th-century switzerland, 1960s so-called verdingkinder (literally: contract children or indentured child laborers ) children taken parents, due poverty or moral reasons – mothers being unmarried, poor citizens, of gypsy–yeniche origin, so-called kinder der landstrasse, etc. – , sent live new families, poor farmers needed cheap labour.


there verdingkinder auctions children handed on farmer asking least amount of money authorities, securing cheap labour farm , relieving authority financial burden of looking after children. in 1930s 20% of agricultural labourers in canton of bern children below age of 15. swiss municipality guardianship authorities acted so, commonly tolerated federal authorities, 1960s, not of them of course, communities affected of low taxes in swiss cantons swiss historian marco leuenberger investigated, in 1930 there 35,000 indentured children, , between 1920 , 1970 more 100,000 believed have been placed families or homes. 10,000 verdingkinder still alive. therefore, so-called wiedergutmachungsinitiative started in april 2014. in april 2014 collection of targeted @ least authenticated 100,000 signatures of swiss citizens has started, , still have collected october 2015.
