in memory

in 1972, ghazi , serving officers crew members honored gallantry awards government of pakistan. after war, president richard nixon forgave remaining debt of ghazi pakistan when u.s. navy s cno admiral elmo zumwalt visited admiral mohammad shariff in calcutta in 1972. in addition, remained first , yet to-date u.s.-built submarine have served in pakistan navy, although in successive years, surface warships had been acquired through transfers united states pakistan worked towards building own long-range submarines, agosta 90b, through technology transfer france.


at naval dockyard in karachi, ghazi monument built perpetuate memory of submarine , 93 men. in 1974, naval base, pns zafar, commissioned , constructed in memory of commander zafar muhammad khan serves headquarter northern naval command. in 1975, navy acquired albacora-class submarine portuguese navy , named ghazi (s-134), in memory of pns ghazi.

in 2016, pns hameed commissioned ghazi honored , namesake of first officer, lt. cdr pervez hameed.
