achmed sarcastic, cynical , offensive character, follows own agenda in first place, retains loyalty cares for. extremely hideous , adult men scared looks. wears black, hooded robes , covers face cloth, not hide ugliness because has exposed nerves , veins on face sensitive vibrations of outside world. carries him signature weapon, cwellan – crossbow-like weapon of own making. distrustful , dislikes taking risks; hates acting without plan , must in control of every aspect of situation. there 2 people achmed cares - grunthor , rhapsody. achmed has strong feelings rhapsody, never tries change relationship more friendship. substantially because of ashe, part dragon rhapsody loves. achmed maintains have rhapsody when ashe either dies or embraces dragon heritage, achmed , rhapsody both immortal.

ashe
ashe half-blood cymrian, lirin , dragon ancestry. has bright copper hair , brilliant blue eyes draconian (slit-shaped) pupils. introduced late in first novel of series, though readers realize ashe not seems be.
his real name gwydion of manosse. son of llauron invoker , grandson of gwylliam, once king of cymrians. cymrian , dragon ancestry gives ashe exceptionally long life, , because of lineage, has great magic in blood. sent in time meridion lost island serendair, destroyed falling star on 1,000 years ago. there meets emily, soul mate. 1 day later, however, sent own time, , goes insane grief. goes grandmother, seer named anwyn, , asks emily, tells him didn t escape cymrians (this technically true, though emily does, in fact, escape). gwydion loses hope of emily s survival after that. century later, gwydion goes out fight f dor alone, , dies result. soul taken him, , escape becoming host demon, severs s left of it. though escapes, fatally wounded, chest torn open. because best friend, stephen, finds him narrowly escapes death, though told died. ashe taken realm between life , afterlife healed, , in process inner dragon awakened. since has taken name ashe, , travels in mist cloak, in order hide fact still lives.

jo troubled, rude , angry 16-year-old girl, orphaned child of street, rescued rhapsody, achmed , grunthor being killed minions of f dor, along several other children. achmed s chagrin, rhapsody adopts jo sister , 2 become close, although jo @ beginning distrustful , distances herself everyone.
eventually, jo becomes less unstable, more trustworthy , trained fighter, of grunthor. when achmed becomes king of ylorc, jo stays them, in startlingly luxurious life has never known. after meeting ashe, jo becomes infatuated him, although feelings one-sided.
f dor
f’dor demonic spirits born of dark fire in before-time, hunted dhracians, ultimate goal of destroying world. 1 of first born races. background story, few remain in world, , sealed in vault of underworld. have no corporeal form, , must take host body. potential host must weaker than, or equal in strength spirit in order f dor subdue (the exception in cases of voluntary possession, strong host allows weaker spirit in). host cannot become father or mother, require f dor share of life force create new life, , nature far greedy that. inherently evil , desire above else release fellow f dor vault of underworld , burn entire world ashes.
there 2 generations or pantheons of f dor; older , younger. older first ones born, primeval fires off earth. these considered more evil, actively chose dark, evil fire instead of pure, bright, elemental fire. younger pantheon born after choice , know nothing other black fire.
in first age, of f dor stole 1 of 6 eggs laid primeval wyrm, modified , hid inside earth. wyrm grew, fed on earth, , 1/6 of mass of world. f dor know sleeping wyrm s name, , try become powerful enough call it, awakening sleeping child . if happens, earth destroyed, , f dor have succeeded.
