clinical education @ northwestern dates law school’s beginnings. innovative program developed dean john henry wigmore in 1910 chicago legal aid society evolved legal clinic, opened doors in 1969 2 staff attorneys. in 2000, clinic named northwestern university trustee , alum neil bluhm. today, bluhm legal clinic houses more 20 clinics within 14 centers , recognized 1 of comprehensive , effective clinical programs in country. through law school s clinical program, students gain direct experience representing clients , fine-tune skills advocates. work clinical faculty , staff challenge fairness of our legal institutions , propose solutions reform.

the center on wrongful convictions (cwc) dedicated identifying , rectifying wrongful convictions. center investigates possible wrongful convictions , represents imprisoned clients claims of actual innocence. focuses on raising public awareness of prevalence, causes, , social costs of wrongful convictions , promoting reform of criminal justice system.


appellate advocacy center

the appellate advocacy center includes federal appellate clinic , supreme court clinic. federal appellate clinic allows third-year students obtain provisional law licenses , argue cases before united states court of appeals seventh circuit. students in clinic spend entire year representing criminal appellant, merits briefing oral argument.


the supreme court clinic enables students act supreme court litigators in partnership attorneys @ sidley austin, including northwestern law alum carter phillips, has argued more cases in front of supreme court other lawyer while in private practice.
