following group exhibition @ lyc gallery in cumbria, andy goldsworthy , michael jepson; rankle s work in landscape art became starkly politicised. in summer of 1982 on first trip finland became aware of effects of acid rain on lakes , forests of scandinavia, , patently inadequate response of establishment. series of landmark installation/performance pieces followed intended draw attention environmental issues (often fund raising events arts earth, art wing of friends of earth). these included 30 metre long scroll painting produced on top of beachy head in sussex collaborator jan stephens, , several notable pieces left-field artists group order out of chaos; 1 of discarded sculptures (1986) first project bring work attention of wider public.
