on march 4, league of nations passed resolution demanding ceasefire, though sporadic fighting persisted. on march 6, chinese unilaterally agreed stop fighting, although japanese rejected ceasefire. on march 14, representatives league of nations arrived @ shanghai force japanese negotiate. while negotiations going on, intermittent fighting continued in both outlying areas , city itself.


on may 5, china , japan signed shanghai ceasefire agreement (simplified chinese: 淞沪停战协定; traditional chinese: 淞滬停戰協定; pinyin: sōnghù tíngzhàn xiédìng). agreement made shanghai demilitarized zone , forbade china garrison troops in areas surrounding shanghai, suzhou, , kunshan, while allowing presence of few japanese units in city. china allowed keep small police force within city.
