management

psychological

medications

as of 2014 there no medications effective tinnitus. there not enough evidence determine if antidepressants or acamprosate useful. while there tentative evidence benzodiazepines, insufficient support usage. anticonvulsants have not been found useful. steroid injections middle ear not seem effective.


botulinum toxin injection has been tried success in of rare cases of objective tinnitus palatal tremor.


other

the use of sound therapy either hearing aids or tinnitus maskers helps brain ignore specific tinnitus frequency. although these methods poorly supported evidence, there no negative effects. there tentative evidence supporting tinnitus retraining therapy. there little evidence supporting use of transcranial magnetic stimulation. not recommended.


alternative medicine

ginkgo biloba not appear effective. american academy of otolaryngology recommends against taking melatonin or zinc supplements relieve symptoms of tinnitus. in addition, 2016 cochrane review concluded evidence not sufficient support taking zinc supplements reduce symptoms associated tinnitus.
