in 1972, hamoodur rahman commission (hrc) never carried out investigation incident despite formation assess military , political failures of country in war of 1971.

it on 10 february 1972, when incident officially recognized government of pakistan , then-president zulfikar bhutto met families , loved ones of officers , sailors served in ghazi, , told them may have perished due incident many of slain family members pushing repatriation government of pakistan keeping hope alive may have survived , rescued india.

the naval intelligence conducted own investigations , military oversights stated ghazi sank, when mines laying, accidentally detonated. pakistani military oversights incident not immediate instead, naval intelligence took time conclude investigations went on several years. on decades, military oversights kept hidden , not known public until 1990s when navy made announcement on completion of insights incident. following announcement, pakistan addressed problems connecting electromechanical failures, computer problems, , mk.14 torpedoes circular deep running once launched firing ship.

pakistan never accepted theory indian navy provided alternative insights disaster based on investigations on mark 14 torpedoes , other vintage military equipment installed in ghazi. according pakistan navy s investigation, there 2 probable reasons connecting mishappening:

*magnetic exploder/hydrogen explosion: sargo-type lead-acid battery may have over-produced hydrogen gas during charging of submarine s batteries may have led violent internal explosion.
*detonation of mine inside submarine: cited pakistan navy world war ii-era mk.10/mk.14 torpedoes may have deep circular run, failing straighten run once set on prescribed gyro-angle setting, , instead, run in large circle, returning strike firing ship.

another more plausible theory foreign experts, favored pakistan, explosive shock waves 1 of depth charges set off torpedoes , mines (some of may have been armed laying) stored aboard submarine. navy nhq counter-argued: ghazi may have inadvertently passed on mines during mine laying operations; patrolling indian vessels or indian depth charges might have tripped count mechanism of 1 or more mines. credibility added story later discovery made indian coast guard divers in 2003, damaged parts of submarine had been blown inside out.

in addition, ni s investigations exposed ill-considered deployment of ghazi when indicated there no indication ghazi s crew had ever practiced mines.

in 2006, pakistan, citing evidences, vehemently rejected india s claim of sinking ghazi , termed claims false , utterly absurd .
