history

burial mounds found close banks of river in höllriegelskreuth attest existence of settlement during celtic period. roman road between augsburg , salzburg crosses deep isar valley south of pullach. area first mentioned when tassilo iii, duke of bavaria, gave estate of hesinlohe schäftlarn abbey in 776. church, built in pullach in 806 (other sources suggest 804) included in list of ownership drafted arnulf, duke of bavaria in 1060. until division of church , state in bavaria in 1808, histories of pullach , großhesselohe have been separate.

großhesselohe first mentioned in declaration duke tassilo iii when area bequeathed newly founded tegernsee abbey. later transferred out of ownership of schäftlarn abbey nobles of baierbrunn. estate bought holy spirit hospital, munich in 1301 , dairy served needs of hospital. church built workers in dairy , later replaced in 1698. estate transferred private ownership after division of church , state in bavaria. time owned maximilian von montgelas , classically styled palace still stands. later there number of disputes between municipality of pullach , city of munich regarding estate. ownership of estate, including palace, brewery , related concerns, passed eduard woellner i, , later sons eduard ii , fritz. estate had been largely deforested prior stewardship, 1919 woodlands had been restored.


eduard ii , fritz woellner founded woellner property management company exclusive private residences in großhesselohe in 1925, after estate divided sale. fritz made gift of around 24000 sq.m of family holdings established großhesselohe tennis club , had club house built emulate english country club. later voted in honorary president of tennis club.


in 1930 woodland inn sold spaten brewery. chemical factory owner, eduard woellner died in großhesselohe in 1938 when remainder of estate passed sons, eduard ii , fritz, in trust. in 1939 area of 70 hectares, leased authorities through martin bormann nominal sum.


shortly after this, more or less, compulsory sale, bohrmann estate built. during years of war, many of estate buildings, including brewery used party. fritz woellner s family, including new born son, félix, , elderly widowed mother, forced move hotel bittman. estate sold gradinger tea manufacturer shortly afterwards. payment deferred until after currency reform enacted. ownership of land not restored after war, rather became home of, first gehlen organization, , later bundesnachrichtendienst.


although woellner family protestants, donated land , monies earlier land-sales roman catholic holy trinity foundation later built church in 1952. after war sale of land continued. municipality of pullach recognized fritz woellner honorary citizen , renamed square in front of train station woellnerplatz in honour.


fritz woellner sold last large parcel of land tennis club in 1986. few smaller areas remain , used additional green spaces municipality.


pullach

pullach agricultural municipality. first written mention of church here found in konrad register of 1315, identifies daughter church of thalkirchen. area had 250 inhabitants @ end of 15th century, when old church built. area not wealthy construction paid number of wealthy patrons munich. population remained around 200 mark until middle of 19th century, when population expanded due industrialization.


from middle of 19th century

pullach became preferred day trip munich populace building of bavarian maximilian s railway in 1854 , isar valley railway in 1891. cope throngs of visitors, station had @ least 6 platforms. visitors promenade en masse along isar various beer gardens of waldwirtschaft (woodland inn) in großhesselohe, rabenwirt (raven tavern) in local centre, had @ least 5,000 seats, bürgerbräu.


in conjunction development tourist location, pullach became popular area artists. several villas of period remain, schwaneck castle, built ludwig von schwanthaler , used youth hostel.


a lido spa built along bank of isar in 1892, though remained working concern until 1904.


a hydro-electric , steam power station built near höllriegelskreuth in 1894, , further hydro-electric power station built in pullach in 1901. laid foundations industrialization of area coming of lindes ice machines, (now linde group) , munich electro-chemical works, (united initiators).


during period of nazi germany, pullach of importance due reichssiedlung rudolf heß, kind of housing estate party elite, , location of führer headquarters on land used bnd.


pullach 1 of first municipalities in , around munich develop district heating system using geothermal energy came online in 2005. water, reaches temperature of 107 °c, accessed late jurassic level, deep beneath ground.


a large anniversary festival held @ end of july in 2006 celebrate area s 1200 years.
