phases

plans call 3 phases of construction. upon final completion, freeway have 5 lanes in each direction, including high-occupancy/toll (hot) lane. sections include 2 lane frontage roads on both sides of freeway.


phase 1 including constructing either outside lanes or 2 one-way frontage roads each section of entire length of mountain view corridor, not @ same time. phase 1 construction completed on various sections need exists , funding permits. outside lanes sections 2 outside lanes of freeway built in each direction. @ each future interchange roadways curve out edges of right of way future off-ramps of freeway be, creating 2 one-way intersections. frontage roads sections 2 one-way frontage roads on either side of planned freeway lanes. 2 one-way intersections created @ each future interchange, outside lanes sections, except future off-ramps , on-ramps connect frontage roads prior , after interchanges, respectively. (such frontage roads , interchanges referred texas style.) frontage roads built between old bingham highway , porter rockwell boulevard, 2100 north spur. remaining sections have outside lanes built in phase one.


phase 2 actual freeway constructed needs require , funding permits. building either outside lanes or frontage roads in unique manner done phase 1 preserves space in middle build overpasses , actual freeway lanes frontage roads constructed. also, having been built way were, there minimal traffic interruption while phase 2 completed.


phase 3 widen freeway 2 lanes 5 in each direction (with 1 of lanes provisioned hot lane), again need exists , funding permits.


in mid-2010, utah county planners discussed future plans freeway in utah county lehi santaquin along west side of sr-68 west of utah lake. has been speculated become part of mountain view corridor project.


the first sections of mountain view corridor opened traffic in design of separated 2 lane carriageways signal controlled at-grade split intersections, upgraded later.


progress

the environmental impact statement freeway completed in november 2008, leaving funding highway biggest remaining obstacle. previous proposals included raising state fuel tax or tolling new road public/private partnership, issue became highly contentious. ultimately, state legislature decided bond freeway, using future tax receipts pay it. first phase of construction began in mid-2010 , finished december 15, 2012.


construction on spur runs along 2100 north in lehi s street grid , connect eventual freeway interstate 15 began in late 2010. spur, travels far west redwood road (sr-68), opened 24 september 2011. during phase two, spur extended further west future freeway.


construction on 2 miles of frontage roads in herriman between rosecrest drive , 12600 south has been completed , portion opened traffic on 2 june 2012. additional 7 miles of frontage road complete , anticipated open use on 13 october 2012. these additional portions extend usable roadway porter rockwell boulevard in bluffdale north old bingham highway in west jordan. 6 more miles of frontage road further north anticipated completed in late 2012. end of 2012 total of fifteen miles of phase 1 frontage roads, extending porter rockwell boulevard north 5400 south in west valley city, open use, associated bike lanes , trails. in 2016 access 5400 south (sr-173) completed, , construction continued northbound.


while no specific time table has been given udot remainder of overall project, anticipated completed 2030.


current progress

mountain view corridor entirely in stage 1 of construction plan. entire roadway built extends redwood road (sr-68) 4100 south. section between 5400 south , 4100 south opened on november 18, 2017 @ 3:00 pm. opening celebrations included fun run, ugly sweater competition, , ceremonies mayor of west valley city spoke.. mountain view corridor expected completed sr-201 completed end of 2020. unknown when completed interstate 80.
