pauline chalmers (known amongst teammates jane doe-a-go-go) established sheffield steel rollergirls in august 2008. after having moved sheffield, , in desire make new friends, discovered sport of roller derby on myspace. realising there no roller derby team in sheffield, decided create myspace profile dedicated creation of sheffield team. while many mistake members of team students, in fact include teachers, engineers , other professionals.
in march 2010, team received £700 grant local newspaper sheffield telegraph part of south yorkshire community foundation s grassroots grants programme designed fund worthwhile projects in sheffield. allowed league organise first home bout @ ponds forge international sports centre in july 2010.
the team celebrated third birthday on 9 august 2011.
on september 3, 2011 new b team - crucibelles - had debut bout against newcastle rollergirls b team, whippin hinnies, in double header saw stars play newcastle s team, canny belters.
