under 1890 regulation issued united states department of war, salute union consists of 1 round every state of united states, or 50 rounds since 1959; fired battery annually @ noon on u.s. independence day. during ceremonial volleys, presidential salute battery fires blank artillery rounds packed 1.5 pound powder charge.
