timoleague friary founded franciscan order in 1240. abbey built on site of monastic settlement founded saint molaga in 6th century. 4 masters state monastery of timoleague founded maccarthy reagh, lived near kinsale, in 1240. mccarthys over-lords of corca laidhe, @ least since 13th century, , received tribute chiefs of district. abbey extended donal glas mccarthy in 1312, , irish , norman patrons in 16th century. monks dispersed reformation, returned in 1604. in 1612, abbey sacked english soldiers smashed of stained glass windows, of significant architecture remains. friars remained in abbey until 1642 when friary , town burnt english soldiers under lord forbes.
