changi naval base (cnb) latest naval facility of rsn , built replace brani naval base. located on 1.28 km² (0.50 mi²) of reclaimed land @ eastern tip of singapore, officially opened on 21 may 2004 goh chok tong.
its 6.2 km (3.9 mi) berthing space can accommodate aircraft carrier , used visiting ships of usn.
automation incorporated design of cnb reduce manpower requirements. has automated underground ammunition depot allows ammunition loaded onto ships , automated warehouse system store items. base has fibre optic broadband network information management. base designed environment-friendly, small-scale wind turbines powering lights along breakwaters @ night. conventional roof construction materials substituted thin film solar panels , solar energy generated lights base. in addition, seawater used in air-conditioning system.
currently, submarines, frigates , amphibious transport docks based @ cnb. co-located in cnb changi naval training base, known rss panglima—named in honour of first ship of navy.
