upon taking office, davis affirmed support in general engineering courses , expanded courses in civil engineering introducing six-week surveying experience students complete summer before sophomore years @ camp johnsonburg, satellite of stevens main campus. mechanical engineering program incorporated more practical projects instill knowledge of basic principles. economics , humanities departments expanded , strengthened, including development of human engineering laboratory. laboratory gave aptitude , vocational guidance tests stevens students , implemented change in exact mathematical grades courses letter grades.
following expansion in enrollment davis responsible expanding opportunities students dorm on campus. presidency saw increase 30 campus residence more 300. residence hall constructed on east part of stevens campus in 1962 in clear view of new york city.
