hinton advanced majors, making debut in july 1971 against new york yankees, pitching perfect 8th inning in relief of terry forster. go on pitch in 18 games year, including 3 starts, winning 3 games , losing four.

1972: yankees , rangers

shortly after 1971 season ended, white sox traded hinton team against whom d made debut, yankees, in exchange outfielder jim lyttle. started season in minors, coming majors in may. september, however, out of yankees organization, contract purchased texas rangers. altogether, hinton pitched in 12 games in 1972, winning 1 , losing one.

back white sox

the rangers traded hinton again following spring, sending him along nate colbert cleveland indians former american league batting champion alex johnson. however, indians kept hinton 1 season, during never appeared in majors, before releasing him following spring. returned white sox, signing them less 2 weeks after release, , spent 1974 season in minors again. in 1975, hinton returned majors, pitching in 15 games chicago, on move again.

cincinnati

in december, hinton traded once again, time cincinnati reds along minor leaguer in exchange veteran relief pitcher clay carroll. while carroll continued on have couple more years, hinton continued on fringes of majors, pitching in twelve games in majors in 1976 , none in 1977, after hinton granted free agency.

white sox, take three

once again, hinton found himself in white sox organization, , first time extended chance @ majors. responded having best season in 1978, pitching in 29 games, starting four, , pitching pair of complete games, ones of career. picked first major league save on june 3 against kansas city royals in support of ken kravec. era of 4.02 best since 1972.

final season

hinton made 1979 major league debut in may, wasn t effective d been previous year. era white sox went 2 full runs, 6.04, although did pick 2 more saves. in july, traded seattle mariners also-struggling juan bernhardt, not play in majors again. hinton pitched little better seattle, finishing season 1–4 record , 5.86 era. never pitched in majors again.
