woodland (2011)

the paper kites went on begin writing , recording first ep, woodland. recorded ep in 2011 tim johnston, 1 of rasmussen s university teachers. first official single, featherstone , released in june 2011 in advance of ep. new single again received audiences, online. following single release, band released second video, featherstone . having passion film, bentley said, involved in videos make , people work with. our music videos further extensions of song itself, , want them interesting , engaging. work pretty closely our directors. sam bentley commented felt lucky amount of success bloom , featherstone gained online. august ep woodland released.

after release, band picked booking agent stephen wade (founder of select music), impressed when sold out corner hotel, iconic melbourne venue. wade introduced band managers gregg donovan , stuart macqueen, who, after seeing band perform, signed them wonderlick entertainment. after, band invited tour josh pyke on sparrows national tour in september 2011. in november of year, paper kites opened on boy & bear s 16-date national tour of moonfire.

in february 2012, band went on first headline tour of australia, playing sold-out shows in small clubs around country. success of woodland, band began getting requests music on various television shows, including featherstone being featured in season 8 finale of grey s anatomy.

young north (2012)

in april 2012, band had on 30 unrecorded demos , ready start recording full-length record. however, decided hold off making full-length album , release second ep instead, feeling more touring , building on sound beneficial before releasing debut record. decided work engineer , producer wayne connolly, , recorded five-track ep through june 2012. band s first time working producer. bentley recalled, working wayne (connolly) different how imagined working producer be. patient while @ same time pushed best performance out of us. got inside songs , knew how push our sonic ideas . title of ep, young north, came titles of 2 songs did not make cut.

the first single, maker of time , released in july , picked australian alternative station triple j. band collaborated sydney director jefferton james on video, capturing one-take improvised performance tendai dzwairo, east of town of mildura.

with release of ep in august 2012, paper kites embarked on 13-date young north tour of australia in october. found along progressing sound , live performance attracting bigger crowds , selling out larger rooms.

following tour, band did small run of shows opening uk band bombay bicycle club in january 2013.

states (2013)

the paper kites began recording debut full-length album states in february 2013, collaborating once again producer wayne connolly. album recorded @ sing sing studios in melbourne, , alberts studios in sydney. 13-track record cut down on 40 un-recorded demos, majority of material used written in two-week period prior band beginning pre-production on record.

in august/september 2013, band released record , toured nationally around australia on states tour. in october made first trip america, opening canadian band city , colour on 13-date tour across country. states released in north america on 1 october, , paper kites continued on own 17-date headline tour of , canada, marking first international headline tour selling out string of shows across both countries.

st clarity first single released record. music video directed acclaimed australian director natasha pincus, starring french artist sylvain letuvée. second single young released after. video directed darcy prendergast, , featured on 4000 portrait photos taken , arranged make video, later nominated j award australian music video of year.

twelvefour (2015–present)

the band released second album twelvefour on 28 august 2015. album recorded in seattle , produced grammy-nominated music producer phil ek. sessions took place across 2 studios—the avast recording company , chris walla s studio hall of justice. record concept album written entirely between hours of midnight , 4 am. first single, electric indigo , released in june music video following starring actress laura brent , charles grounds. revelator eyes , renegade , late followed singles.

along announcement of album news of twelvefour documentary directed filmmaker matthew j cox followed band s creation of album has yet surface.

in january 2017 band released 2 outtakes twelvefour sessions on spotify.
