the expedition arrived @ snow hill island @ weddell sea in 1902, spend 1 winter. ship return pick them up, antarctic, under command of captain carl larsen, crushed ice , sank, leaving expedition spend second winter on snow hill island, no communication mainland or antarctic party, stranded , spent winter in rough shelter on paulet island. year later argentine corvette uruguay rescued survivors, including argentine officer.
upon return argentina sobral left army , went sweden study geology @ uppsala university, doctored in 1913. in 1906 married swedish elna w. klingström, whom have 9 children.
in 1914 returned argentina, working national director of mining , hydrology until 1924. in 1930 named argentine consul in norway, returned argentina year later work argentine national oil company ypf. retired in 1935, continued travelling around argentina , giving geology lectures until death in buenos aires in 1961, coincidentally on 80th birthday.
