before duo s foundation, rory lee feek worked songwriter in nashville, tennessee, , continued work songwriter member of joey + rory. songs wrote other artists include clay walker s top 5 hit chain of love , blake shelton s number 1 hit beach , easton corbin s little more country , blaine larsen s 2005 hit, how lonely , , jimmy wayne s 2008 single . rory founded independent label giantslayer records in 2004, on joey recorded solo album entitled strong enough cry in 2005. album released in cd format , digital download in 2008. rory recorded solo album on giantslayer records, titled ol man, made available download.
joey + rory performed on cmt competition can duet in 2008, in third-place finalists. shortly after competition, signed independent label sugar hill records. returned can duet stage perform cheater, cheater on original song night series second season, aired on july 25, 2009.

the duo s debut album, life of song, released on october 28, 2008 on sugar hill records. album debuted @ no. 10 on billboard top country albums chart, , no. 61 on all-genre billboard 200. lead-off single, cheater, cheater , recorded duo bomshel. kristy osmonson, one-half of duo, co-wrote song feeks , wynn varble. bomshel s version released single in 2008, although did not chart. joey + rory s version released in september 2008, featuring music video included cameo naomi judd, had been judge on can duet. joey + rory s version peaked @ no. 30 on country music charts in 2009. duo has appeared in television commercials online retailer overstock.com. in february 2009, duo nominated academy of country music awards top vocal duo. although cover of lynyrd skynyrd s free bird have been released second single, withdrawn after 2 weeks, , replaced in march 2009 play song , failed chart. album s third single, goodbye , released radio on july 27, 2009, debuting @ number 54 billboard magazine s hot shot debut on hot country songs chart.

joey + rory announced on october 15, 2009, in studio working on follow-up album life of song. album, titled album number two, announced in january 2010 , released on september 14, 2010. lead-off single, song s , released radio in july 2010; s important me had been chosen, single choice changed. music video song s directed darren doane , released in august 2010. s important me released album s second single in october 2010. debuted @ number 58 on hot country songs chart week ending february 12, 2011.
on march 16, 2010, announced duo winners of 2010 academy of country music award top new vocal duo, , compete alongside luke bryan , gloriana top new artist award. joey + rory performed new songs upcoming album, interviewed, , received award on gac special acm top new artists on april 1, 2010.

on august 29, 2011, joey + rory released new single, titled headache, country radio, though failed chart , not included on album. joey + rory released first christmas album, farmhouse christmas, on october 11, 2011.
joey + rory s third studio album, , hers, released on july 31, 2012. when m gone , josephine served album s first 2 singles , simultaneously released radio before album, though neither charted. in late 2015, due spike in sales when m gone after video featured in press joey + rory, managed enter billboard hot country songs chart @ number 21.
2013–2016: final recordings
joey + rory announced on red carpet of acm awards duo had recorded first album of gospel music. joey martin told billboard s kind of inspirational album, of old gospel songs grew singing , listening mom sing.... it’s album i’ve wanted long, long time. album, inspired: songs of faith & family, released on july 16, 2013 via gaither music group. debuted @ number 166 on billboard 200 first-week sales of 3,000, while peaking @ number 31 on top country albums chart , @ number 6 on top christian albums chart.
after release of gospel album, joey + rory announced releasing fifth studio album, made last, in late 2013 via own farmhouse recordings record label (their first self-released project). made last released on october 8, 2013 , debuted @ no. 44 on top country albums chart. sixth studio album, country classics: tapestry of our musical heritage, released exclusively cracker barrel in may 2014, wide release following on october 14, 2014. second project on gaither music group, record consists of cover versions of classic country songs. in october 2015, after joey s terminal cancer diagnosis, duo cancelled future concert appearances.
hymns important us, duo s seventh , final studio album, released on february 12, 2016 via gaither music group. set, dream project joey feek, consists of twelve covers of christian hymns, plus reprise of when m gone, first featured on duo s , hers album in 2012. proceeds of album s deluxe edition go towards loeys-dietz syndrome foundation, charity selected joey feek in honor of daughter s friend has loeys-dietz syndrome. hymns important debuted @ top of billboard top country albums , top christian albums charts, first week sales of 68,000 copies, making highest-charting release , duo s best sales week ever.
rory feek wrote , produced film, josephine, set in american civil war , included couple s song of same name. .the film later debuted @ nashville film festival in summer 2016.
