normal atlanto-dental joint on projectional radiography.
a widening of atlanto-axial joint, measured between posterior surface of anterior arch of atlas , front of odontoid process, indicates injury transverse atlantal ligament. normally, atlanto-dental distance less 2 mm, maximum of 3 mm accepted in men , 2.5 mm in women.
