on 20 november 1933, plimpton applied patent improved constructional building toy , granted on 16 january 1935 patent no. 422,645. limited production of new toy began in late 1935, used kitchen of house , of family pack construction sets. in 1934, established plimpton engineering company limited in liverpool manufacture product, , end of 1934, bayko light construction sets in full production. term bayko light derived name bakelite .

over next ten years bayko system improved on , production grew construction sets exported across world.
in late 1940s plimpton applied for, , granted on 2 december 1948, second patent no. 613,767 entitled improvements in constructional building toys . dealt design of new parts bayko, never manufactured. plimpton s tuberculosis had resurfaced again , had spent of last year in sanatorium in north wales. died on 29 december 1948 @ age of 55.

plimpton s wife continued running plimpton engineering next ten years, retired in 1959 after bayko began losing market share new construction toys lego. sold company meccano ltd in 1960, continued manufacturing bayko 7 years.
