the town s centre , buildings along entrance streets consists of buildings between 2 , 7 floors. of buildings may give impression of town being larger is. landskrona relatively larger today compared century ago. between approx. 1880 , 1920 town transformed military town town heavy industry within many sectors. Öresundsvarvet shipyard, opened in 1917, became largest employer (with close 4000 employees in 1970s). industry not limited shipbuilding, , sugar refinery, several textile industries, fertilizers , other chemical plants, spectrum of various manufacturing industries, grew up. after first world war, town stopped growing fast many other swedish towns did. , last military regiment moved hässleholm in 1924. between mid-1920s , mid-1970s town grew approx. 20,000 inabitants 30,000. , after swedish municipality reforms reached end point, in 1974, municipality counted around 38,000 inhabitants.


during demolition rampage era , in sweden period between 1955 , 1975, when word old in general meant bad , in context of architecture. typically department stores , parking houses replaced older buildings in town , city centres. landskrona relatively spared this, not entirely. around rådhustorget , town hall square, 1 building built before le corbusier s functionalism became popular. demolished buildings low or of minor architectural value, falcks hörna (a block corner building rather unusual look) considered loss town in 1971.


as fortified town, stone houses preferred instead of wooden houses. hence few examples of traditional danish , scanian half-timbered houses exists. apart castle (the actual building @ citadel) , sofia albertina church, other notable 19th-century or older buildings rådhuset , town hall, landskrona museum (sv), old railway station building , theatre.


by 1901 town employed first town architect, , of town s central parts, , buildings along (partly former) entrance roads characterized former town architechts fredrik sundbärg 1901–1913 , frans ekelund 1913–1949. sundberg created number of monumental buildings old water tower, remarkable school tuppaskolan , power station , hot bathhouse (which though demolished in 1970s), 2 large block of flats falken , gripen, intended working class.



frans ekelund restored half-timbered building in harbour of landskrona. building style traditional scania, in landskrona there few such buildings. pure stone houses preferred town fortified.


ekelund, believer in trädgårdsstaden or garden city, created areas within own homes whithin town limits. ralph erskine created row house area called esperanza (spanish hope) around 1970. in year ufo-inspired new water tower taken operation. no real monumental building has been build since then. not new railway station can considered such building.
