the village part of székely land region of historical transylvania province.


its hungarian name first recorded in 1567 in form of amadeffalwa (amadé s village), , in 1602 village mentioned shortened forms madéfalva became names of village. romanian form of name madefalău, authorities renamed current official name after 1919.


the siculicidium, or massacre @ madéfalva of january 7, 1764 took place here. 200 székely killed maria theresa s habsburg army local székely hungarians refused join recruits newly organized borderguard regiments. following massacre, great number of székely people began flee region crossing carpathian mountains bukovina , moldova. massacre s latin name siculicidium, traditionally written sicvlicidivm. monument in memory of massacre erected on october 8, 1905.


the village administratively belonged csíkszék district until administrative reform of transylvania in 1876, when fell within csík county in kingdom of hungary. after treaty of trianon of 1920, village became part of romania , fell within ciuc county during interwar period. in 1940, second vienna award granted northern transylvania hungary , villages held hungary until 1944. after soviet occupation, romanian administration returned , village became officially part of romania in 1947. inside romania, between 1952 , 1960, commune fell within so-called magyar autonomous region, between 1960 , 1968 mureș-magyar autonomous region. in 1968, romania administration organized in 42 counties, , since then, commune has been part of harghita county.


the commune used comprise several villages, 2004 village of ciceu (csicsó) forms independent commune village of ciaracio (csaracsó). village of racu (csíkrákos) along village of satu nou (göröcsfalva) forms independent commune.
