the panadura town branch, first building @ rankoth viharaya premises.


due rapid expansion of college rankoth viharaya premises become congested , there necessacity re-locate college. manager of board of management tried relocate walaw waththa in 1942, sri sumangala college presently located. when failed, management decided shift college nalluruwa. first old boy of college, walter salgado, donated land main buildings , m. c. fernando donated 2 1/2 acres used playground of college.


the main hall of building complex donated leo fernando; physics, chemistry , biology laboratories donated p. c. h. dias , main building , class rooms built public donations.


all classes grade 6 upwards taken nalluruwa new buildings on 7 august 1942. grades 3,4 , 5 continued @ rankoth viharaya premises , popularly called town branch of college. principal or head of section a. c. morawaka served college until retirement.


with transfer of college nalluruwa become 1 of leading educational institutions laboratory facilities available students science subjects in medium of english . advance level students of sri sumangala girls school used laboratories in afternoons practicals. plot of land between main college , play ground acquired education department.


in 1961 large number of schools taken on government , town branch registered separate school principal being appointed education department. precedent created admit children leave town branch after passed grade 5 test. in 1992 due inclement weather retaining wall of rankoth viharaya collapsed damaging main hall of town branch. school had kept closed few months. old boys association, parents , wishers constructed 18 semi-permanent class rooms , town branch amalgamated main college.


on may 25, 1993 college declared national school ministry of education.


on 26 december 2004 tsunami destroyed southern , eastern coastal ares damaged part of semi-permanent buildings of college. 2004 indian ocean tsunami struck during school vacation no injuries recorded.


all 182 schools damaged tsunami. out of these damaged school government has decided re-locate 98 school including sri sumangala college. donor partner jica has granted sum rs.330 million build new school modern facilities.


it coincidence of fate sri sumangala college has moved location 5 decades later board of management had planned on in 1942, before settling site in nalluruwa.
