the washington international school has strong athletic program , has excelled in potomac valley athletic conference (pvac) many years. wis competes in variety of sports such basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming (club), softball, baseball, track , field, cross country running. recently, boys middle school basketball team defeated both sandy spring , st. anselm s advance pvac finals vs. grace brethren. game played on monday february, 12 , team head cave in clinton, md 13-2 boys team led star shooting guard anders westermann. consistent , high level of play highlighted 13-point, 4 assist, 5 rebound outing vs. wca , 9-point performance in first half prior minor injury vs. burke. must keep mvp worthy season (szn) in order lead team first boys middle school basketball pvac championship in entire history of school.


due strong international background of students, wis has strong soccer program , has won pvac league banner , tournament trophy many times. in 2009, wis won regular season banner , beat field school in tournament final. in 2010, wis able derail sandy spring friends school s unbeaten run in finals of pvac tournament in 2-0 win. however, next year lost sandy spring in final 3-1, sandy spring swept both regular season , playoff banners. in 2012, wis returned favor winning both banners, while defeating sandy spring 1-0 in final third playoff banner in 4 years. third seed in inaugural version of dcsaa, upset in quarterfinas. in 2013, washington international finished second place in regular season rebounded defeat sandy spring 3-0 in final fourth tournament title in 5 years. however, season ended loss eventual winners sidwell friends school in dcsaa quarterfinals.


in 2014, team had extremely successful year. finished regular season record of 14 wins, 1 loss, , 2 ties, including undefeated conference record. however, upset in pvac championship game rival sandy spring. despite this, first seed in dcsaa tournament. lost in semifinals eventual champion gonzaga. @ 1 point during season, ranked no. 7 in metropolitan area washington post highest ranking in school history. varsity team followed 2014 season arguably best season in school history. finished regular season record of 15 wins, 1 loss, , 1 tie winning both pvac regular season , playoff championship. once again first seed in dcsaa tournament lost st. albans in final in overtime, finishing season record of 17 wins, 2 losses, , 1 tie.


building off of last year s incredible run, wis once again won both pvac regular season , tournament championship. seeded #2 in dcsaa tournament, beat both gonzaga , st. albans on penalty kicks in quarterfinals , semifinals, respectively. in championship match, wis beat bell multicultural 1-0 in overtime first dcsaa boys soccer championship. finished season record of 17 wins , 1 tie , ranked no. 2 in area washington post.


furthermore, girls soccer team won pvac double 4 years in row before losing in semi-finals in 2013.


in 2008, wis boys basketball team upset jewish day school win pvac basketball championship. in 2013, wis varsity girls basketball team beat hebrew academy win pvac basketball championship.


the girls volleyball team has won 2 straight pvac championships.
