despite offer of fiba european national basketball federations, many clubs instead agreed euroleague participate in 2016–17 euroleague, or 2016–17 eurocup. regional leagues adriatic league , vtb united league, many national domestic leagues, signed contracts euroleague basketball right participate in competitions.
because of support euroleague, fiba threatened suspend 14 european basketball federations eurobasket 2017. notified national organisations given five-day period, until 20 april 2016, explain stance on situation. these federations are:
on 16 april 2016, fiba asked germany take on hosting of 2016 fiba world olympic qualifying tournament italy, @ risk of suspension. in end, no suspensions applied.

andrei kirilenko, president of russian basketball federation, requested vtb united league suspend participation of russian teams in eurocup. said contract vtb voided if league refuses.

francisco roca, president of spanish acb, said, ban unfair , unfounded , , said there not ban spanish teams playing in fiba competitions, despite agreeing contract euroleague basketball.
the spanish basketball federation (feb) requested acb suspend agreement euroleague. acb answered again feb, stating cannot impede spanish clubs joining tournaments, , possible suspension of spanish national team not fault.
