training
while growing in calgary, sing attended numerous stampede wrestling events mother. knew wanted wrestler young age , beat neighborhood children. teenager, sing approached members of hart wrestling family , asked trained, rejected did not train women wrestlers @ time. bret hart, however, claims had more scheduling conflicts. during trip hawaii in 1978, saw japanese women s wrestling on television , decided wanted pursue sport. later wrote mildred burke, after friend gave magazine burke s contact information, , sent biography , photo. shortly thereafter, joined burke s training facility in encino, california.
japan, canada, , puerto rico (1979–1995)
after few weeks of training burke, sing scouted japan women (ajw), despite inexperience. sing s debut match in japan tag team match partner mami kumano, defeating beauty pair (jackie sato , maki ueda) in january 1979. in japan, began wrestling under name monster ripper. although found adjusting japanese culture difficult, sing held ajw s title on 2 occasions , first calgary born wrestler gain success in japan. during time in company, japanese female wrestlers gave hard time because did not losing foreigners. sing had difficulty because of youth , inexperience in ring. sing, however, comforted new japan pro wrestling s dynamite kid, had trained in calgary. sing won wwwa world single championship jackie sato on july 31, 1979. despite losing title sato 6 weeks later, regained on march 15, 1980. title vacated in august 1980.
sing won awa world women s championship candi divine on july 8, 1990 in mayagüez, puerto rico.
after stint in japan, sing returned stampede wrestling in late 1987 , renamed rhonda singh stu hart, owner of company. there plans pair gama singh, never came fruition. during 1987, named first women s champion because had defeated wendi richter prior returning stampede. held title until september 22, 1988, when lost chigusa nagayo.
over next few years, sing once again traveled throughout world , wrestled number of companies, holding several titles. between 1987 , 1990, sing worked in puerto rico world wrestling council (wwc), held wwc women s championship on 5 separate occasions defeating wendi richter, candi devine, , sasha in matches title. . monster ripper on wwc 18th anniversary show (july 6, 91), faced , beat el profe on woman vs man match.
world wrestling federation (1995–1996)
sing during time in wwf bertha faye.
in 1995, sing contacted world wrestling federation ailing women s division. she, however, repackaged bertha faye, comedic character lived in trailer park , dated harvey wippleman. (in oww radio interview wippleman revealed 2 never got along well) wwf management wanted have on-screen feud bull nakano, there change of plans after nakano charged cocaine possession.
sing made wwf debut on april 3, 1995 episode of monday night raw participating in sneak attack on alundra blayze, making appear if blayze s nose had been broken. @ summerslam, faye defeated blayze wwf women s championship , held title until october 23, 1995 airing of monday night raw, blayze regained title, ending faye s reign @ 57 days.
fan interest in women s wrestling sunk once again year closed, , sing tired of working there. moreover, faye frustrated gimmick. wwf management asked not perform same power moves male wrestlers, instead, faye forced act comic relief. after year company, sing asked release contract. briefly returned japan, did not new system, did not guarantee payouts.
world championship wrestling (1999–2000)
in late 1999, worked world championship wrestling (wcw) briefly, appearing on several telecasts generate interest in women s division. contender both wcw cruiserweight championship , wcw hardcore championship. in addition competing in matches using singh , monster ripper gimmicks, made couple of appearances nitro girls dance troupe under name beef , comic relief.
