it estate of mr. , mrs. fred t. james. in 1908, fred james purchased property wife s parents, mr. , mrs. thomas rumney, adjoining land home smith company. purchase totalled 21 acres (8.5 ha) of hills, valleys, virgin forest, , bush meadow land on west side of humber river in area part of etobicoke.


the james family lived in house situated on top west corner of estate @ edgehill road. preserved day, two-story, red-gabled house built of humber river stone. building community recreation centre operated city of toronto parks, forestry , recreation department. horse stables located below house northwest stairs now. part of original wall can still seen. various horseshoes, nails , coins have been found in flower beds.


in 1920s, james family installed weeping tiles , water features. various first nations artifacts including spear points found. these examined in 2000s , dated 4,000 years old.


the park purchased metro toronto $150,000 in 1955 , subsequent operated parks department.

in 2013, rob ford, former mayor of toronto, lived near entrance of park. unsuccessful in buying segment toronto , region conservation authority. investigation toronto star reporter led night-time confrontation ford reporter.
