given lista apparently more populous area oddernes parish, , these churches seem built same teams, vanse church has been dated around year 1037. first church may have been built in wood , replaced stone church @ later stage.


the stone church may have been in romanesque style. church still has pointed arches in gothic style. originally, church had 2 windows high on south wall, , 2 windows @ choir wall. other literature indicates creation of church begun around 1200, , designed pointed arches in gothic architecture. however, may indicate dating of of oldest parts of church derived 13th century.


the church rebuilt again , expanded in 1848, because of accident in church 8 people killed , several injured. accident occurred when there arose panic in crowded church , several people trampled death.


the choir , east wall demolished in 1848 , replaced large cross-shaped extension. during restoration small box of lead piece of cloth found. found limestone , piece of bone unknown saint (possibly st. olaf). found under church floor in vanse church, in front of former altar.


the church has subsequently undergone restoration work. church listed protected site norwegian directorate cultural heritage, pursuant norwegian law.
