wodson park sports , leisure centre located on north side of ware. owned , operated wodson park trust community based charity providing sports , recreation facilities people of east hertfordshire. has extensive range of sports , entertainment facilities including indoor sports halls, restaurants , external athletics facility. home ware football clubs.

the ware drill hall grade ii listed building in centre of ware home many sporting clubs , community facilities , hosts many sporting, cultural , music events throughout year. facility operated ware drill hall association (wdha).


cricket

there evidence suggest cricket has been played in ware since before 1770. present ware cricket club has grounds @ bell lane in widford.


bowls

the ware bowling club founded in 1926 , in located in grounds behind ware priory. in 2008 became bowls england club of year. known topiary hedges in grounds.


football

ware has 2 non-league football teams. ware fc founded in 1892 , play home games @ wodson park sports centre in north of town. other non-league team wodson park f.c., founded in 1997, play games @ sports centre on separate pitch.


american flag football

the ware wolves flag football team, popular flag football team in hertfordshire, takes name town although plays in hertford.


golf

the chadwell springs golf centre located in ware , undergoing major refurbishment programme.


rugby

hertford rugby football club formed in 1932 old hertfordians group of enthusiasts hertford grammar school. club played @ 6 different venues until moving present location @ hoe lane in ware in 1949. home old hertfordians squash club has 2 courts here.


scouting , guiding

ware 1 of first places out of london take scouting movement , has many scouts , guide clubs.


swimming

ware has 2 swimming pools, 1 indoor , 1 outdoor. fanshawe pool , gym located in park road. ware priory lido built in 1934 , 1 of few remaining still in regular use in country. substantially altered in 1970s new changing rooms , situated in grounds of ware priory.


following meeting of townsfolk of ware in may 1934, agreed swimming club formed. still running today , based @ fanshawe pool.


festivals , events
ware festival , rock in priory

the ware festival committee organises wide range of events throughout july, lively carnival parade, through on 60s party, raft race, teddy bears picnic culminating in rock in priory one-day open-air music festival. visitors ware during july find packed programme of events throughout 4 festival weekends, everyone.


ware fireworks display

for on 30 years there has been annual fireworks display in ware on nearest saturday guy fawkes night. display organised round table organisation; however, in recent years has been taken on 3 rotary clubs in ware: rotary club of hertford shires, rotary club of ware , rotary club of amwell. event held in field off high oak road , attracts many thousands of attendees. profits event donated local , international charities supported rotary.


dickensian evening

dickensian evening annual event celebrates work of charles dickens, in particular festive novel christmas carol, , takes place on first friday in december each year.


the event run through town centre , drill hall used pitches , stalls. of festivities include carol singing, fairground amusements , craft market, making enjoyable event ages.
