human spaceflight programme

the indian space research organisation has proposed budget of ₹124 billion (us$1.9 billion) human spaceflight program. according space commission, recommended budget, unmanned flight launched after 7 years of final approval , manned mission launched after 7 years of funding. if realized in stated time-frame, india become fourth nation, after ussr, usa , china, carry out manned missions indigenously. government of india has not yet approved mission of october 2016.

technology demonstration

the space capsule recovery experiment (scre or more commonly sre or sre-1) experimental indian spacecraft launched using pslv c7 rocket, along 3 other satellites. remained in orbit 12 days before re-entering earth s atmosphere , splashing down bay of bengal. sre-1 designed demonstrate capability recover orbiting space capsule, , technology performing experiments in microgravity conditions of orbiting platform. intended test thermal protection, navigation, guidance, control, deceleration , flotation systems, study hypersonic aero-thermodynamics, management of communication blackouts, , recovery operations. isro plans launch sre-2 , sre-3 in near future test advanced re-entry technology future manned missions.

astronaut training , other facilities

isro set astronaut training center in bangalore prepare personnel flights on board crewed vehicle. center use simulation facilities train selected astronauts in rescue , recovery operations , survival in 0 gravity, , undertake studies of radiation environment of space. isro build centrifuges prepare astronauts acceleration phase of mission. plans build new launch pad meet target of launching manned space mission in 7 years of funding clearance. third launchpad @ satish dhawan space centre, sriharikota.

development of crew vehicle

the indian space research organisation (isro) working towards maiden manned indian space mission vehicle can carry 3 astronauts 7 days in near earth orbit. indian manned spacecraft temporarily named orbital vehicle intends basis of indigenous indian human spaceflight program.

the capsule designed carry 3 people, , planned upgraded version equipped rendezvous , docking capability. in maiden manned mission, isro s largely autonomous 3-ton capsule orbit earth @ 400 km in altitude 7 days two-person crew on board. crew vehicle launch atop of isro s gslv mk ii, under development. gslv mk ii features indigenously developed cryogenic upper-stage engine. first test of cryogenic engine, held on 15 april 2010, failed cryogenic phase did not perform expected , rocket deviated planned trajectory. second test of indigenous cryogenic engine successful on 5 january 2014 , on 27 august 2015.
